Overview & Highlights

Located along the picturesque Marine Promenade in New Brighton, Mediterranean Sea offers a timeless take on the classic British fish and chips takeaway experience, perfectly capturing the nostalgic charm of a traditional seaside treat. This unassuming spot has remained a beloved local gem for over a decade, delighting customers with freshly cooked, piping hot fish and chips that are bursting with flavor and expertly prepared.

The true star here is the quality and freshness of the food. Cod fillets boast a golden, crispy batter that strikes a flawless balance between crunch and tenderness, while the chips come out perfectly cooked—crispy on the outside yet fluffy on the inside. Customers repeatedly praise the freshness, from Graeme Nisbet, who applauds the consistently amazing, red-hot meals, to PH who highlights the generous portions of perfectly cooked large cod and well-done chips made to order. Whether you’re enjoying your meal on one of the tidy indoor seats or soaking up fresh sea air outside, the food itself promises to transport your taste buds straight to a classic British seaside holiday.

While the interior is modest and has seen little change in over a decade, which some visitors like Martina acknowledge could benefit from refurbishment, the warmth of the staff and the welcoming atmosphere more than compensate. The friendly counter service ensures a smooth experience even during busy lunchtimes. Reviews mention a spotless environment and prompt, efficient staff who handle a steady flow of customers with ease, highlighting their commitment to quality service.

Adding a modern touch, Mediterranean Sea now offers smaller portion sizes that still pack a satisfying punch, perfect for those seeking a lighter option without sacrificing that hearty, comforting flavor. Beverley Mcdonough’s appreciation for this thoughtful offering perfectly captures the team’s understanding of their customers’ varying appetites.

For those who love an authentic seaside dining vibe, grabbing your meal to enjoy on the promenade benches provides a delightful way to elevate your takeaway experience. As Steve Ince puts it, “eating outside if the weather is nice is fun,” combining great food with a scenic, relaxing setting. A minor note from some customers involves packaging preferences, suggesting environmentally friendlier options could enhance the experience further, especially for take-home orders.

In short, Mediterranean Sea on Marine Promenade stands out as a steadfast destination for anyone craving traditional fish and chips served with care, quality, and a genuine local spirit. Whether rediscovering it after years away or visiting for the first time, prepare to be welcomed by flavorful, freshly made fish and chips that honor a cherished British seaside legacy.

Not been here for 12 years, not changed at all, same great staff, fish n chips, ALL FRESHLY COOKED ARE AMAZING, red hot and sooooo TASTY.. only due to health probs has it been so long, back here next week.. Thank you fir a fab meal

Three adults visited at lunch time, at first I was hesitant as it seemed small but when you enter you see it has plenty of seats, The lady behind the counter was lovely very welcoming, we had fish chips peas and gravy, the place was very clean, let's talk about the fish cooked to perfection, the batter was perfect and the chips were delicious I myself did not have the gravy or peas from what I understand they were good as well, we had coffee and tea , my friend really wants to stress that cup of tea was perfect . Would Highley recommend, it does have benches outside near by so would be lovely in summer to sit out. When I say Highley recommend I mean it well worth a visit.

Never disappointed when we get fish and chips from here. Thankfully we now have the option of a small fish and chips which is still very filling. Great take home or even better Pat outside on the prom. Would like use option of cupboard dishes / box rather than a polystyrene tray, I would even say extra.

Wasn't sure as no hygiene rating visible but the fish and chips were really nice and tasty . Freshly cooked so some waiting but that's fine. Sat outside to eat. Table was clean.

We visit the place first time and we enjoy our food. Lovely portion for the money. Spend £16 for 2 fish&chips and curry sauce. Fresh cook to order , very friendly staff. Give just 4 star because the place need bit of refurbishment. Doesnt look very pleasant on the inside. But food is very nice.

Real old style cod and chips! Ok not cheap or large but great quality. Staff are efficient and serve a steady flow of customers quickly. The eating area could do with some investment but eating outside if the weather is nice is fun.

Good fish and chips, decent size large cod and well cooked chips. All cooked freshly to order.
